MMy family and I recently joined the YMCA, and let me tell you, it's absolutely fantastic! The atmosphere is just lovely, and everything appears to be in top-notch condition. The staff members are all so warm and welcoming. The only minor issue for me is the occasional untidiness of the bathroom facilities. As a co-owner of a cleaning company, I strongly believe in maintaining high standards of hygiene. It's just a quick check to ensure everything is in order. Another thing that bothers me is the chilly temperature inside the pool building, especially when we're at the pool. It's not necessarily the water temperature Although that’s also a huge part of it, but rather the cold air. I really wish it was warmer in there. Today was my second visit, and my kids were already itching to leave. This defeats the purpose of me joining in the first place, as I was hoping to engage in some winter activities. It's just too cold for us to enjoy ourselves. I really hope they can address this issue. Other than that, everything else seems quite pleasant.

The “Throwing under the bus” technique. The facility is clean. They have all the equipment anyone would ever need. "Most" of the staff goes above and beyond to be friendly and helpful. I used to go everyday for 7 years. The Y was my safe haven and a great place to meet some folks and get in shape. As far as programs I guess they were ok. I only attended spin classes and that was my demise when they BANNED ME and kicked me out for criticizing a trainer in a text message to her...and only her...I would never go over her head to complain and get her in trouble. However...this "trainer" and I use that term lightly, ran to her boss, the director, and whined that I had criticized her. Whaaa!!! And then they unleashed the demons of hell on me. Long story short...1. I signed up and paid for 9 one-on-one training sessions with this trainer. 2. It took her 5 months to complete 6 sloppy half-baked sessions. I felt she was lacadaisical and uncommitted to our agreement. 3. I complained to her about it. 4. She turned me in for "complaining in a text. 5. They KICKED ME OUT and ghosted me. Not a soul would speak to me..not the trainer, not the director, and they sent out an organizational note saying I was not to be spoken to. The psychological effects of being ghosted are cruel and abusive. This technique should never be used on another human. Two years later, 1000 miles away, that company wide ghosting still haunts me. I still dream of receiving an apology from the trainer!! So...nice place to work out, but....management is dictatorial and the trainers aren't qualified to train a ham-sandwich. After note: It's been 2 years since my experience with McColl YMCA. I go to the Y in North Carolina these days almost every day. I work out. I follow an online trainer who is amazing. The best part is this trainer is not a friend, but a sincere dedicated trainer that I don't even know beyond the training. I speak to no one. I make no friends or workout buddies. I do not attend group workout classes. I live alone in a condo in the country. Solitude. I do not trust "people" "HELL IS OTHER PEOPLE." ~ Jean Paul Sartre

This facility is quite nice. The gym, women's locker room, inside pool, well maintained. Today, I visited the outdoor pool for the first time in over a year, of membership here at MacColl YMCA. A bit disappointed, the closest stairs into the pool was out of order. I'm disabled and had knee surgery it was a bit inconvenient to walk over to the safer stair option into the pool. Once in the pool there was an unavoidable smell of urine rising from the water of the pool. The chlorine seemed watered down. Attention Members of MacColl YMCA, everyone is paying to be in the Summer Pool program 2024. Let's be considerate to one another and not hog up all the lounge chairs and umbrellas or PEE in the pool? I arrived early and it felt like a stampede as everyone entered the pool area. Lastly, all picnic tables should have an umbrella. We shouldn't have to scavenge umbrellas especially, when there are no other places to sit and take shade from the sun. PS we asked personnel and was told that there were no more umbrellas. Shortly thereafter, the personnel member grabs an umbrella walks it pass the gate and dumps it on the floor. Looks like it's going to be a very busy summer. All the best. Thanks for allowing a space to post constructively.

Do not participate in any activities involving children. They hire children to take care of other children, with an inadequate and negligent system that fails to provide proper care. Had a very bad experience. My child joined their summer camp and experienced bullying, resulting in facial injuries. YMCA not only refuses to take responsibility but also fails to ensure the safety of children and shirks their duties. The management system is extremely poor and inadequate, with no avenue for complaints.

Neat and clean. Friendly staff. Their monthly programs are not continued every month. We need to enroll and register ourselves, which is painful.
